Early Life and Musical Aspirations

Born in Kherson, Ukraine, Nicholas Perry was adopted as an infant by an American family and raised in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. From a young age, he exhibited a passion for music, particularly the violin. He pursued this interest academically, earning a degree in violin performance from the Catholic University of America's Benjamin T. Rome School of Music, Drama, and Art. Perry's musical journey included performances at prestigious venues like Carnegie Hall. In 2013, he moved to New York City with aspirations of joining a Broadway orchestra. However, the competitive nature of the field led him to seek alternative career paths. 

YouTube Career and Mukbang Fame

Channel Evolution

Perry launched his YouTube channel, Nikocado Avocado, in 2014, initially focusing on vegan lifestyle content and musical performances. However, in September 2016, he released a video explaining his departure from veganism, citing health concerns and negative experiences within the vegan community. 

Rise in Mukbang Content

Transitioning to mukbang videos, a genre involving eating large quantities of food on camera, Perry quickly gained popularity. His dramatic and theatrical approach set him apart, making him one of the first American men to embrace this trend. Over time, his content expanded to include multiple channels, amassing over 9.9 million subscribers and approximately 2.67 billion total views across six YouTube channels as of September 2024. 

Personal Life and Public Persona

Perry married fellow mukbang YouTuber Orlin Home on April 10, 2017. The couple lived in Colombia for three years before relocating to Florida. Their relationship, often featured in Perry's videos, ended in divorce in 2022. 

Known for his emotional outbursts and controversial content, Perry has been open about his struggles with mental health, including diagnoses of obsessive-compulsive disorder and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. He has also discussed physical health issues related to his weight, such as erectile dysfunction and mobility challenges. 

Weight Transformation and Social Experiment

In September 2024, Perry shocked his audience by revealing a 250-pound weight loss in a video titled "Two Steps Ahead." He disclosed that he had been posting pre-recorded videos over two years to conceal his transformation, describing the process as "the greatest social experiment of my entire life." This revelation sparked widespread discussion about authenticity and performance in digital media.

Beyond YouTube, Perry maintains a significant presence on platforms like TikTok, Instagram, and Twitter. His content, characterized by its dramatic flair and candidness, continues to captivate a global audience, making him a prominent figure in the online mukbang community.
